Maria is a young girl who was born profoundly deaf. Without specialist education, Maria will never learn to communicate with her family and friends. The school she attends has no money and neither Maria’s grandmother nor the families of the other deaf children can afford school fees.
Eighteen months ago, Deafway formed a partnership with St. Anthony’s School; a school for deaf children in Uganda where Maria attends. Deafway are aiming to fund and support the school for an initial two year period. To do this they need to raise £60,000 to cover all of the costs for the school to educate 50 deaf children for two years. That’s just £12 per child per week.
So far Deafway have raised around £50,000. The closing date to raise the final £10,000 is 31 March 2012. If you would like to help you can text 70070 with the message UGAN01 and £10 or donate online at www.deafway.org.uk.
