Celebrating British Sign Language is a good thing - Signature

Celebrating British Sign Language is a good thing

Yesterday, Google caught the attention of millions of people across the UK with its impressive Google Doodle.

The Doodle, a special and temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepage, celebrated BSL and the famous Braidwood Academy. It featured 6 schoolchildren fingerspelling ‘Google’ and linked to a short, fun video on the history of the world’s first deaf school and the fingerspelling alphabet.

Everything we do at Signature is for better communication between deaf and hearing people. We always celebrate and welcome campaigns that promote the value and merit of British Sign Language; we want to see as many people as possible develop an interest and go onto learn BSL.

The Google Doodle was an informative and engaging promotion for BSL that has incited curiosity of the language and its rich history into millions of people.

The theme of the Google Doodle continues today, celebrating Sir John Warcup Cornforth, a deaf chemist who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1975.
