Christmas comes early for the shortlisted organisations in the Royal Association for Deaf People 175 Birthday Honours Awards

To commemorate their 175th birthday, the Royal Association for Deaf People (RAD), is hosting the RAD 175 Birthday Honours gala awards ceremony. All that is great about Deaf history, language and culture will be celebrated on this memorable occasion. 

 

The shortlisted organisations have submitted entries which have demonstrated excellence, innovation and forward thinking. Competition for the awards has been high; the shortlisted organisations are the best of the best.  

The shortlisted individuals and organisations are:

Best Deaf business:

·        Signworld – Linda Day

Best Deaf role model:

·        Aliric Marasek

·        Jackie Wan

·        Dr Sarah Powell

Best employer of Deaf people:

·        City Lit

·        Living Options Devon

·        SignHealth

Most accessible mainstream services:

·        HMRC

·        London Borough Islington

·        Team Marlborough Court

·        UK Power Networks

Most outstanding contribution made to the Deaf community:

·        Dr Barry Wright

·        Lillian Lawson

·        Dr Terry Riley

Most innovative Deaf Club:

·        St Johns Deaf Club

·        Medway Deaf Club

·        Romford Deaf Club

Most significant research contribution to Deaf studies:

·        Deafness Cognition and Language (DCAL)

·        SignHealth – Sick of it

·        Social Research with Deaf People (SORD) BSL IAPT Project Team

Preservation of Deaf history and culture:

·        British Deaf Association (BDA)

·        Deaf Museum & Archive Curatorial Team

·        Peter Brown

The young person award:

·        Ashley Kendall

·        Ellen Parfitt

·        Finlay Maciver

 

The judging panel comprised of Deaf leaders and community experts will meet on December 8th to agree the winners of each category.

 

The awards ceremony takes place at the prestigious Millennium Hotel Mayfair on 11th February 2016. It starts with a champagne reception at 6.20pm, followed by dinner and top class entertainment. The evening will be hosted by comedienne Helen Lederer. VIP’s and members of the Deaf community from all corners of industry will join together to pay tribute to the foresight, determination and hard work of the many past, present and future Deaf pioneers.
