Earlier this week, Signature chief executive, Jim Edwards, met with Rt Hon David Blunkett MP to discuss some of our campaign work.
David who is MP for Sheffield, Brightside and Hillsborough has pledged to back the campaign to improve the quality of live TV subtitles for deaf people and is interested to know when the first monitoring report is due.
He also continues to support the campaign for increased communication and language support and access to public services for deaf and deafblind people.
At present, there are concerns throughout the deaf sector that communication professionals are not required to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure and that this could be putting deaf people at a disadvantage. As part of the meeting, David also expressed a keen interest in seeing the registration of communication professionals have more regulatory support and has agreed to put forward Parliamentary questions relating to DBS disclosures.
