NDCS responds to Let US Learn Too open letter

The National Deaf Children’s Society has responded to an open letter, of which it is a signatory, from Let Us Learn Too. It was sent to the Prime Minister highlighting the difficulties disabled children and young people are facing.

Mike Hobday, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the National Deaf Children’s Society, said:

“The SEND review is a golden opportunity to finally make the law work for more than a million disabled children, including tens of thousands who are deaf.

“Deaf children have always achieved less at school because all too often, the support they need simply isn’t there and this became even more evident during the pandemic. Families must be consulted at every turn to make this broken system work for them, instead of leaving far too many to fend for themselves.

“Every child in this country deserves the support they need to reach their potential, and that doesn’t change because you’re deaf.”
