What’s new?
Each unit specification follows the standard Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) unit format. For example, the relationship between learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the unit are presented in a table.
Level 2
We have changed the way the assessment for unit 202 and 203 is carried out. This is in response to the feedback you gave us at our customer focus groups.
For unit 202 and 203 assessments, candidates no longer choose their topic title on the day of assessment. They will be assessed on the theme chosen by the teacher at the start of the unit.
For unit 202, the candidate will now sign their story to their teacher. If the candidate is struggling the teacher can prompt the candidate to keep the presentation flowing. The assessment time is now between 3 – 5 minutes (instead of 3- 4 minutes).
Level 3
As part of this review and the feedback we received, improvements have been made to the Level 3 NVQ Certificate in British/Irish Sign Language. An explanation of the assessment criteria is provided in the qualification specification.

The teacher notes for DAC1, BSL1 and ISL1 are no longer in the qualification specification and can be found in the resources section of the website. To view these please click here.
